There’s a new personal finance tool called Wesabe that was launched quite recently. The Get Rich Slowly blog has a comprehensive write up about it. I haven’t been big on personal finance software before as I keep track of my own finances with my own basic 10 year old self-developed custom system (yes, I need to join the modern age I know), and I’m kind of a security freak, so I’m still on the fence regarding Wesabe’s security policy, awaiting the time when I’ll feel warm and fuzzy. Hmmmm….maybe it’s time for me to get slicker about my financial tracking system, but part of me still feels that some of these tools may be overkill.
The tool itself delivers some good features (shared tips, tags, goals, targets) and looks quite promising — surely it will be “right” for those out there who will want to enjoy the financial community atmosphere it provides; for now though, I’m going to wait and watch for the green signal from the canaries in the coal mine. Hopefully the wait won’t be for long.

I received this comment from one of the co-founders of Wesabe via email (since my comment spam blocker got screwed up but should now be fixed). Thank you Marc for taking the time to reply to my post.
From Marc Hedlund of Wesabe:
Thanks much for the write-up. Speaking as one of the co-founders, I
agree security is a big concern, and I wouldn’t want people to upload
to just any site. We’ve tried to do the right thing by architecting
our systems so that you keep your bank credentials on your own
computer instead of ours, and by setting policies like our Data Bill
of Rights (which you linked to). If there’s anything I can address
that would ease your concerns, please just let me know: marc@wesabe.com.
Thanks again and hope we win you over soon!
