I’ve decided to change up the format for our weekly money blog articles, hopefully to make things simpler to follow. I’ll be highlighting some interesting posts I’ve come across from the finance, business or self development blogging community as well as reference some of the carnivals I’ve visited this week.
Articles I Liked
MapGirl’s Fiscal Challenge has Corporate Schwag! She’s let the cat out of the bag — most of my wardrobe consists of free trade show or company shirts I’ve received in bulk. Now you know how I save money on clothes….
A Girl Worth Saving discusses My Last Tax Refund. I’m envious of her. Do you know that I haven’t received a tax refund in 16 years? Maybe next year…
Zen Habits gives us What Is Truly Necessary? A Guide To Living Frugally. A nice personal plan for cutting back.
Catch A Gideon gives us something a bit different with The Easiest Way To Reduce Calories and Lose Weight. Since I’m actually trying to lose weight myself, I will take their tips on not drinking any calories!
Frugal Momma offers Sunday Insulating Adventures where she discusses winterizing her house. She’s one busy person despite the cold, which is impressive as I can hardly move when I’m cold.
The Frugal Duchess has “Stomp The Yard Movie” Features Work-Study College Student where she reviews the movie and discusses her earliest jobs.
Money, Matter and More Musings writes about The Salary Problem and Two Possible Solutions. Refresh your math skills with this one.

Thanks for the link. I do miss Silicon Valley schwag. It was good stuff. I went to Semicon West one year and was overloaded!
Thanks for the link & now I know your secrets for dressing well for less.
Take care.
Hee :). My family doesn’t appreciate my sense of style too much as I stick out like a sore thumb in family reunions, outings, you name it. Ok it’s not that bad…
Regarding the tax refunds topic:
You deserve congratulations for not receiving tax refunds in 16 years! Especially if it is a result of a savvy tax payment strategy.
I personally think that it makes sense to take advantage of the IRS safe harbor rules for avoiding tax penalties:
90% of the current year’s tax liablility or
100% (or 110%) of the previous years’ tax liability:

Any amount in owed taxes above the safe harbor could, of course, be invested and paid to IRS
on April 15 of the following year. It’s completely legal, and more profitable than receiving a tax refund.
