Golbguru’s post last week caught my eye when he discussed ketchup hoarding as a frugal sport. Is ketchup or condiment stealing stooping to new “frugal” lows?
Picking up those ketchup sachets on occasion or in small quantities isn’t really a big deal but I guess it’s the serious hoarding of freebies that may be in question here. Instead, while on the subject of cheap eats, you may want to consider less questionable ways of saving money. So why not check out Cheap Healthy Good, a site dedicated to what else but frugal eating tips. A recent post dishes out some ideas for cheap, healthy eating while on vacation.
Now on to more great reads from the week before. Seems like I compiled some pretty long lists this time!
Stuff I Read About This Week
- The Sun’s Financial Diary: (Re)balancing your portfolio will help you weather any kind of market climate. Sun is also doing a bit of buying, like I am, during this tumultuous time in the markets.
- Lazy Man And Money: Here’s an interesting take on Prosper, the lending network that Lazy is a proponent of. Can Prosper really beat the S & P?
- Money Smart Life: I hear Ben when he rails on infomercials and junk mail (especially the kind that looks like it came from an official source). If junk mail is to be junked, then why are they made? There must be money in this…
- Gen X Finance: Why term is better than whole life insurance. Why term life insurance is the best type of insurance to get!
- Free Money Finance: Don’t cosign a loan, unless you’re willing to take on that debt in the worst case scenario.
- Mighty Bargain Hunter: Everyone’s got something to say about the market right now. I figured any investment blog worth its salt would pipe in about it at some point.
- Five Cent Nickel: The key to making money in the stock market is to be in it. Period. Sit through the pain and wait for that eventual rebound.
- Blueprint For Financial Prosperity: Jim goes into further detail on why he sold out of his target retirement mutual fund. I like it when bloggers get up close and personal about their moves.
- The Simple Dollar: Yes, you can advance your career and still be able to spend time with your family! Here’s how you can achieve both.
- My Money Blog: Do you worry about your parents’ retirement plans? For me, not in a huge way. I believe my parents have enough resources to handle their own situation so I tell them to simply worry about themselves first before they think of their kids.
- Saving With Me: When upgrading your home, it’s important to distinguish between a “want” and a “need”.
- Doughroller: You must check out this very cool ‘new investor’s tool kit’ by Doughroller.
- Saving Explained: Here’s another cool, massive list of financial resources you need to hold on to.

I tried hoarding ketchup, soy sauce, and Popeye’s hot sauce packets for a while too. Eventually I just ended up with a drawer full of it for no reason at all. There’s a reason why I had so much of it stored up…I don’t use those type of condiments!

Money Blue Book
Thank you so much for the mention! In regard to the ketchup debate, I had a friend in high school whose goal was, over the course of a summer, to fill his car trunk with Taco Bell packets. He succeeded. There were thousands of those things, and I never found out what he did with ‘em. If you ever spot a mountain of hot sauce somewhere …
That is a classic picture. I used to eat ketchup by the pack and while it was great for a quick college fix, I think it also gave me some massive heartburn.
