What Shopping This Time of Year Reminds Me Of

by Silicon Valley Blogger on November 24, 2007

Oh yeah, this is precisely why I dread setting foot in the stores this weekend, but I may just have to — I need a few small items for the home and the family which are absolutely necessary, and I’m trying to decide whether I should go this weekend or defer the trip till this chaos is over. Of course, I won’t know if there’s true chaos out there unless I venture forth to see it for myself.

At any rate, this video reminds me of something…. let’s see… (unfortunately, it’s dark and grainy, but the music is “energetic”).

For feed subscribers, you can check out this link. Or even better yet, try this link to watch another outrageous shopping experience unfold.

No, I’m not that claustrophobic — maybe just mildly so, but I guess this is what the crowded holiday shopping experience reminds me of.

That is absolutely crazy. If that’s how it looks on the outside I’d hate to be inside. I can only imagine all the pushing and shoving. That is exactly why I do most of my shopping online.

I used to work retail when I was in college and am very familiar with this sort of thing. It is precisely why I would rather sleep in than be herded like cows.

Beyond just the hassle, a couple more things make me shy away from such crowd activity:
- the increased risk of crime
- the increased risk of catching a bug

I usually wait till the coast is clear before I walk into a store (hence, forfeiting the savings on sales sometimes).

Also, shopping online is great too, the one hassle it sometimes presents is when I have to return stuff that I purchased off the web and having to work to get my money credited appropriately in such situations.

Wow that video is crazy. It starts off seeming so organized and then like two or three jackasses just run past the line and then everyone starts rushing in. lol, nice find on that video.
