Personal Finance Reads
- The Simple Dollar covers some techniques to try when faced with a major life or financial decision. Look to both rational and objective approaches as well as to subjective and emotional responses to help you make your decisions.
- Lazy Man and Money tells us why he hates Monster.com as he enters into a job search. The only one I’ve ever used was Dice.com, which in the past has yielded pretty good targeted results for me.
- Money Smart Life suggests a list of financial resolutions you can tackle in the next year.
- Money, Market and More Musings and I have the same take on debt — it’s a financial tool that can either hurt or help depending on how you decide to use it.
- Gen X Finance tells us about a three letter abbreviation more vile than IRS: that would be AMT, which stands for the Alternative Minimum Tax.
- The Sun’s Financial Diary goes through the interesting exercise of how to select mutual funds for an investment portfolio.
- Five Cent Nickel has a reader who wonders what to do about overspending on a Flexible Spending Account (FSA). My problem has been the opposite — I underspend and end up losing what I put in the account, so I’ve personally opted out of using them till I get my act together on this matter.
- Blueprint For Financial Prosperity consolidates some credit cards as part of his financial winter cleaning program.
- Mighty Bargain Hunter brings up a radical thought: if you’re worried about paying for your children’s college education, then don’t do it. I told you it was radical! He shares some justifications for this argument.
- No Credit Needed offers more thoughts on the subprime situation and the mortgage mess. When the go-go years in real estate were happening, I just had this feeling that the subsequent downtrend would be so much harder to bear.
- Free Money Finance shares some good reasons to turn down a job offer. I particularly agree with the one that says “you get a strange vibe from your soon-to-be new boss.” I would listen to that inner voice: your intuition (or sixth sense) can be telling you something you should heed.
