In between getting my kids registered for the following school year, throwing a kid’s birthday party, and preparing for our taxes, I was able to sneak in a couple of moments to catch up with my personal finance readings. Here are a few notable picks from my reading list:

Personal Finance Reads

  • The Simple Dollar: Some great insight here that delves deeply into the advice that you should spend less than you earn.
  • Lazy Man and Money: So Lazy Man is reading the same magazine I am: Homes and Land. Like him, I review it to check out the latest on our local property markets and ogle at the disparity between house size and price.
  • Money Smart Life: Tax time is upon us! If you’re in the market for an accountant or tax preparer, here are a few things to keep in mind on your hunt for the right professional.
  • Gen X Finance: This article hits home with me because my parents have been screwed by a rogue broker in the past. The guy decided to churn the heck out of my parent’s stock account and they ended up with 30% left of their original investment. The guy got sued but my parents only got half of their money back in the end.
  • The Sun’s Financial Diary: If I remember correctly, not long ago I was talking about how hot the Chinese stocks were and how primed they were for a correction (or fall). The free lunch is now over I guess.
  • Consumerism Commentary: I like checking out other blogger’s goals so here’s an update on Flexo’s. After just one month since he initially made his resolutions, he’s already doing a progress report. That $100,000 alternative income stream is terribly impressive!
  • Free Money Finance: FMF encourages to keep investing through market declines; rest assured, this is the best way to make big strides in your investment portfolio.
  • Mighty Bargain Hunter: Here’s something a little different from MBHunter: a great rant discussing a certain male stereotype. You just can’t force people to grow up. They do so at their own pace.
  • No Credit Needed: NCN talks about trying to quit obsessing over his finances, enlightened as he was by this nice piece from Meg at All Financial Matters. Balance and moderation are always key.
  • Five Cent Nickel: Before you prepare your taxes, check out these common tax deductions and these more uncommon ones too!
  • Moolanomy: A nice compendium of frugal tips and resources from around the blogosphere. And yes, one of my posts was included in this humongous list!
