As we face tighter budget restrictions in my family, we’re doing our best to conserve and cut our costs even further. Around us, we’re noticing the strains of the economic slowdown around our general neighborhood. I’ll talk more about this in detail at a later time, but for now, I can only tell you that having a household with two self-employed individuals is not feeling like the most financially secure set up at the moment.
Then again, with the rumbling of impending layoffs in the horizon for so many in the Bay Area, I’m not sure what’s actually worse — being a small business owner working to stay afloat in these economic conditions, or being an employee bracing for the unceremonious boot.
Either way, we’re doing our best to cope! Hey, with our questionable cash flow at the moment, I won’t put it past myself to ask my two legs if they’d like to join the many thousands of others that are hitting the pavement for a job right now.

You said something that tweaked my interest. You said it was unsettling being in a household where everyone is self employed.
I thank god my wife and I both self employed now because our old jobs got vaporized.

Thanks for the mention!
You’re right – my son left his job almost a year ago and started consulting because he saw the company struggling and didn’t want to go down with it. He was newlywed and I wasn’t sure it was the wisest move but he reminded me recently that the company he left is all but gone and he has done better on his own than he would have if he had stayed with them. Could have gone either way but I’m sure glad it didn’t.
Yes I agree with you. I was working in a company a year ago, and then I created my own setup and now I have a better feeling than before.
Thanks for the resources. My wife and I just started a new business and we’re more than a little anxious what with the state of the current economy and all. We’ll look at the resources together.
