Learning About The Blogging Business, Thanking Our Blog Readers

by Silicon Valley Blogger on April 13, 2009

I wasn’t really paying much attention to this, but it suddenly caught my eye — my traffic statistics are showing me that this blog has hit an awesome milestone! This site has finally registered its 2 millionth unique visit (and close to 3 million page views), and wow, that’s just something that really cheered me today.

start an internet business, online business, home office equipment
Keep on truckin’!

So I want to thank everyone who has subscribed to our site, and those who’ve come by to visit and check us out throughout the years. This blog is around 2 and a half years old…. born by accident, but I’m glad to know that I’m still here able to nourish it on a daily basis (well, almost).

Looking back, I’m just awed by all the people I’ve met through my blog, and excited about the things I’ve learned over the last couple of years. What were some of these things I’ve picked up?

Few Things I’ve Learned As A Blogger

1. Passive income on the web is hard to come by. At least for me, it takes a humongous amount of work. Even more than I spent working “for the man”, but it is pretty fulfilling.

2. You can give up your day job if you want to. I did it because I had to make a choice — I couldn’t juggle everything and I was burning out. Other folks are able to carry on with several jobs and a family life at the same time, but I couldn’t. So I quit my job and decided to blog full time to try to replace my lost income. So far, it’s turned out to be the right choice for me.

3. You have to like what you do. So you can keep on doing it. If you enjoy what you’re doing, it will increase your chances of longevity at your chosen field, activity or business.

4. There’s so much to learn. But, it’s also a lot of fun. For many years, I’ve pigeonholed myself as someone who did one thing (software development), and I built my professional identity on that long-term career — one which I went to school for. I’m changing those notions and my professional profile now, by taking on stretch goals and projects that are redefining who I am in a whole different business and “career”. And so I’ve discovered personally, that there’s life beyond the nine-to-five that we’re used to living.

Anyway, I’m excited about getting to this point. So here’s to more sharing, education, information and growth (in terms of our community here, and our personal finance learning) over the years. Till the next milestone!

Hey guys, a big thanks to you all! :) It’s great to see how much this community we have is growing over time. I have to thank all of you as well, as my online friends, for the support and network over the years. This place wouldn’t have reached such a milestone without the help of other bloggers and the financial community. It’s exciting to see us all make progress.

Yeah it is hardly “passive income” when it requires so much work. But like you I enjoy blogging, even thought it does eat up much of my time.

New reader here, but I wanted to pass along my congratulations to you for reaching this milestone! Just think, in the two years you’ve been blogging you’ve had an impact (some large, some small) on over two million people. That’s pretty powerful stuff! Keep up the great work!

Thank you once more for your kind words! It’s truly wonderful to be around such great and supportive bloggers — I find you all to be inspiring from both the blogging and financial standpoints. I’ve learned a lot about finance from all your stories (figured out what credit card arbitrage was)! And as our blogs grow “older” I look forward to celebrating everyone crossing their own milestones.

Congratulations and way to go! This is a great blog. You’ve earned your success.

18 MoneyEnergy April 14, 2009 at 2:31 pm

Two million in two and a half years? Whooshe! I hope I can achieve half that success… and like Paul said above, this is great inspiration to others as well… it would be great to see a post, too, on how you think you achieved that success – what you did that worked the most, etc.

19 RC@Thinkyourwaytowealth April 14, 2009 at 8:06 pm

Congrats SVB! May the next 2 million come even faster! Keep up the good work and thank you for all you have done for the PF blog community!

Very cool!

So the *secret* is hard work, eh? Isn’t there a button I can push to turn on the Making Millions feature of my blog?

21 oxford April 15, 2009 at 7:47 am

The power of blogging is unsettling. I’m not at your level yet, but hope to be there soon.

One odd thing…I generate more sales from my blog than I do my website. I’m not sure that’s good though!

22 Trevor @ Financial Nut April 16, 2009 at 2:55 pm

Way to walk away from “the man.” Honestly- I am very, very impressed.

23 David@Best Savings Rates April 17, 2009 at 6:13 am

That is an awful lot of visitors and from reading a few of your articles very well deserved. That really does show the power of the internet and quality of your articles.

24 Shadox April 18, 2009 at 12:46 pm

Congrats! I love your blog and considering that my blog is about the same age as yours and that Money and Such has seen less than 5% of your traffic, you should give yourself a big pat on the back.

25 black celebrity April 24, 2009 at 8:48 pm

the truth is, your blog is hot and clearly written.

26 Michael Harr @ Wealth...Uncomplicated April 25, 2009 at 4:58 am

Congrats, SVB! A great milestone to be sure, but I suspect an even more fulfilling validation of your choices. It’s been a real treat following your blog and learning about your story and I appreciate the effort that you put into The Digerati Life. Hats off to you:)

27 Do You Dave Ramsey? May 2, 2009 at 8:07 pm

Congratulations! Those are amazing milestones! I can not even begin to imaging… keep up the great work and trail blazing for all the rest of us.

Thanks!

Amazing stats, I love how you actually explain that it takes work to be successful at this.
I have read a lot of post on other blogs that say “I have been blogging for two months now and not making any money yet, what should I do?” I say,” Become a person of value to others and with persistence you will succeed.” Congrats on the success!

29 Silicon Valley Blogger May 15, 2009 at 9:01 pm

Dan,
The magic formula for success at anything requires that we put in hard work, dedication, commitment and patience. For a few folks, luck played a huge part. It really helps to start out liking what you do because it can take a long while before you get anywhere. That’s why we hear a lot of success stories especially on the internet, of people who do well because they pursued what they liked to do unwaveringly without money as their motivation. If money were my sole and pure motivation, I’d have quit ages ago…. ;) since for the amount of work I poured in, the money did not seem commensurate to the effort. But I found a lot of reward in meeting others online and learning from what I was doing. To me, it makes all the difference.
