Have you seen this new internet search site yet? I got to playing with this fun, visual search web site called Spezify, which promises to be colorful, though I’m not sure if there’s anything more value added here, other than the cosmetics. Well technically speaking, it’s not a search engine per se, but a site that serves as a pretty front for your searches. Here’s an example of some results I got when I searched for myself:
I find it pretty neat — it’s definitely a novelty, but I’m wondering just how practical and functional it is. It reminds me of that Wordle thing I played with a while ago in this post. I like the cool presentations and the creativity here, and I can see the appeal of these applications on those who can appreciate some great visuals. I’m already thinking of the implications.
As for internet searches, what do you folks think of Bing? Is there finally a reason for Google to look over its shoulder? Here’s looking forward to more online competition, especially among the search engines!

Interesting website, it’s pretty but too bad you need to have flash in order to run a query.
I still have Google as the main for firefox and probably won’t be changing it to Bing any time soon unless they can provide something Google can’t.
This is so cool, do a search on “rabbit”
Thanks for the link! Just to let you know, I got a linkback to a site that a site that had scraped this post, and when I went to go look at it, to see if I should approve it or not, the image was replaced by a large sign saying ‘this site stole my content- go see the original at The Digerati Life’. Now that’s cool- did you do that?
If you email me, I’d be happy to send you a screenshot.
Kelly
@Manshu,
.
Oh, the “rabbit” search is so cute! Just don’t try certain other searches, on certain other words….
@Kelly,
I was hoping to prevent people from linking to scrapers this way. Just to let you know, that same guy scraped a few other blogs as well. Beware of that debtconsolidation dude (scraper)!
Thanks for the feedback Kelly! Yes, what you saw is something I pull on scrapers. I’m glad it’s working!
That search engine looks pretty cool. Thanks a lot for the link! Hope your week is going well. – Todd
Hmm. Spezify is interesting. It won’t be my everyday search engine, but could be useful in some situations.
I haven’t played with Bing much, as I figured it was mostly a re-branded MSN search. I’m not a big fan of Microsoft stuff. The blurb about Google being rattled and having a team working to try and determine how the Bing algorithm works was pretty funny. Of course Google would try to analyze the algorithm of competitors – that’s simply smart business.
This is pretty cool – I of course did a search for my blog and my name – at first I didn’t put my name in quotations and came up with some interesting pictures to say the least lol.
I am a very visual person. I like the looks of it but not sure about practical usefulness. Oh, and yes, I think Bing could be a nice challenge for Google. Nothing wrong with a little competition.
