Ah what a truly powerful combination: the glorious days of winter and the hallowed hallways of preschool! Together, they’ve managed to bring me down with colds and the flu this week. But we slog and blog on….

This coming Monday, February 19, I will be hosting the Carnival of Money Stories #5, so if you are interested in submitting an article, you can do so here! Thanks to Money Walks for this opportunity.

So on to the week that was: it’s been a long one during which I’ve been under the weather, but these blogs and articles perked me up more than just a little.

Investor’s Blog Network

The Bull Trader is primarily a stock trading blog that covers both fundamental and technical analysis of stocks, the author’s stock picks, returns, stock charts and news. His latest entry has screened for momentum stocks, which were the best performing stocks in the last quarter. Interestingly, my favorite ETF’s are in there: Spiders (SPY), XLF (Financial Sector SPDR) and Diamonds (DIA).

BioHealth Investor discusses biotech stocks and provides news and commentary on such stocks. His latest article focuses on a company called Medarex, which is in the field of monoclonal antibody technology.

Generation X Finance is a personal finance blog that aims to cover the financial issues of a certain demographic, that of people born between 1965 and 1985, or of those in their late 20’s and 30’s. I’m at the older end of that generation period but I’m still technically a Generation X-er! Recently, he’s covered the topic of day trading from home.

The Money Post is a new finance blog I’ve come across, which covers a wide spectrum of topics from business, real estate and loans, to investing and even government issues. One of his later articles covers pay day loans and loan places, which we never see around here, so this was something new to me.

More IBN members every week…

Article I Liked

Sun @ The Sun’s Financial Diary has come up with a very timely piece by giving us the country’s top 10 places with the highest tax burdens. My county is not in that list, but I noticed San Francisco and San Jose ranking for highest taxes as a % of AGI. I kind of expected that though. By the way, while I was at Sun’s I practiced some Chinese and got ready for the Chinese Lunar New Year!

ISPF @ Grad Money [Matters] has been at my place it seems. He snapped some pictures of my garage and wrote about it. I can’t believe he would do such a thing. Okay, that was how I used to be…. I’m a reformed pack rat!

This week was not only sick week for me, but it so happens to be devil’s advocate week for retirement accounts too! Well, that’s what I gathered when I came across a couple of articles on this front. Jim @ Blueprint for Financial Prosperity might make you think twice about your IRAs. He’s written a devil’s advocate post on tossing out your IRA for several reasons. And what do you know, Lazy Man @ Lazy Man And Money has also given reasons to toss that 401K! What, could our retirement accounts be passe?

JLP @ All Financial Matters brings up a new type of insurance, nothing else but “ticket” insurance! Would you insure your expensive tickets to some event? That’s insane! I’ve never heard of tickets costing in the thousands before. Well, that’s probably because I don’t go out that often and am not much of a sports fan.

Tricia @ Blogging Away Debt introduces us to some bloggers who were once in debt but are now debt free. Tricia highlights the point in time when No Credit Needed, Defying Debt In 2 Years, and Beyond Broke vanquished their debt. This is an inspiring reminder to many who are wrestling with loans and debt payments.

Henry @ Binary Dollar really stepped it up this week. He disappeared for a short while only to return with a vengeance with a new look, and a series of eye bugging articles including this one on how to save money on condoms! Mercy Me! Anyway, I dig his site a lot and it’s better and badder than ever!

Sharon @ The Frugal Duchess has been coming up with some weird and frugal news lately. Try this one and this one! Did you know that your desk could be dirtier than a bathroom? Yikes!
