The Latest On FMF’s March Madness And Other Blog Post Competitions

by Silicon Valley Blogger on March 17, 2007

table tennis competitionOver at Free Money Finance’s March Madness post competition, where I submitted four of my posts to combat the rest of the personal finance blogosphere, I’m happy to announce that all four of the posts made it to the cut that whittled the pool by half. That means, out of the approximately 120 posts (give or take a few) that made it through, all my submissions made it through the first round.

Here’s how things have turned out.

My post Money 101: Basic Financial Plan, bested The Case For (Some) Active Investing, but lost to
Don’t Let Your Kids Get A Hold Of Your Checkbook.

Walking In A Winter Wonderland for $1,300 was defeated in a very tight match against Reasons Why You Should Not Save For Retirement.

Stop Overspending Now! 14 Ways To Conquer Binge Buying likewise had an equally strong match against Ask for a Pay Raise Discussion Instead of Demanding a Raise but again lost out.

Don’t Let Real Estate Clean You Out had the best progress of the bunch and made it to the Sweet Sixteen round (4th round) by surviving 3 cuts! It beat out these great posts:

Do You Judge Your Financial Situation?
T-Bill Investment Rate: Is it APR or APY? And What Is Your Taxable Equivalent Yield?
Get Rich!! Play the Lottery!! Somebody has to win!!

However, it’s looking like it’s going to fold against Dave Ramsey Is Bad At Math unless a miracle happens.

Now on to Money Blog Site’s other post competition, where it seems like my submitted article How To Furnish Your House On Any Budget, Even For Free has made a little headway (also into the “Sweet Sixteen” round) and is now head to head against Sun’s cool post Dollar-Cost-Averaging: For Higher Return or for Lower Risk?

When evaluating these posts, I feel that everyone deserves a lot of credit for their good work. It’s really all a matter of style and subject matter and perhaps how a topic or discussion resonates with the voters. I voted on some occasions but honestly found myself hard pressed to choose one article over another, though I can see how a certain subject matter and treatment thereof would garner more votes.

I’ve had a fun time participating in these competitions and was happy to have discovered a lot of new blogs in the process. To all the winners (so far), good luck!

Awww Sun! I really enjoy your posts! There are a lot more people who didn’t vote who could’ve picked your articles over anyone else’s. I can’t believe I’m up against you at the Money Blog Site (yet again) though! That’s too weird.
