A Carnival Hopping We Will Go
You’ll find the highlights of the Beijing 2008 Olympics interspersed with great entries from the Carnival of Personal Finance over at Broke Grad Student this week. Here’s a taste of the latest from the financial blogosphere:
- What is Your Number? @ Retired at 47
- How To Save Money on Prescriptions @ My Two Dollars
- How To Protect Your Money If Banks Begin To Fail @ Penny Jobs
I’d also like to invite you to check out the Festival of Frugality at FIRE Finance where both frugal quotes and frugal articles abound. My picks this time around:
- Don’t Go To A Private University @ the fabulous Blueprint For Financial Prosperity
- Seven Ways To Save on College Textbooks @ Fiscal Zen
- Your Future Without Debt @ Everything Finance
I also would like to make mention of the Carnival of Real Estate that, thanks to Sadie’s Take, seems to have broken out of its short-listed format to give us 19 articles this time. I rather appreciate this lengthier list, with more material to chew on.
And if you want to see what insane is, check out the Carnival of the Insanities — “where the bizarre, the ridiculous, and the completely absurd are highlighted for all to see!” Yeah! It’s my kind of carnival!

Thanks so much for including me in your list of links.
It’s interesting to see how many different carnivals exist – I’m going to go check some of them out.
Great articles everyone! RetiredAt47, the carnivals are a great way to meet other bloggers and do some online socializing!
Thanks for the mention
This carnival looks rather interesting. Thanks for the mention. I hope I can meet some good bloggers there.
Saving money on textbooks is always good!
Hey SVB,
I just read your post over at bargainerring.com. I hear what you are saying about public versus private, but I had a completely different experience going to a public university.
I went to the University of Connecticut and luckily got a full ride. That said, I made great friends, saved money, and got an engineering degree from a great school. I joined the alumni group when I left and I always get invited to functions, but can’t attend because I’m 1800 miles away.
We were in the rural part of CT so there was no crime to speak of, but there are plenty of private universities next to some blocks that you wouldn’t want to walk through. Yale is next to a particularly scary part of new Haven for instance. Or at least it was a scary part when I went to a class there back in the early 90s.
I totally agree about having piece of mind though! Can’t put a price on it!
Joe
